Offering an Offering
Suddenly, two years later, I was told to look for some other place to serve that would be “a better fit.” But for many months, God did not show us where that place of service was. Without income, money was tight. Our spirits were sober. We kept looking up for His care and leading.
And the God of loyal lovingkindness responded! He crowded kindnesses into those nine months. Some new friends shared money, enabling us to pay income taxes. One filled our freezer with meat. Another provided a free eye exam for one of our children in need, and yet another paid for glasses. A widow in our neighborhood brought us a bag of apples, crackers, and milk—along with coffee and ingredients for meat loaf.
Among these agents of kindness was our seven-year-old daughter. One evening, she slipped us an envelope. Her cherished, heart-revealing note said, “This is money for you! You can use it until dad gets his job. I love you. From Krista.” In the envelope with her note was $1.76 in cash. It was this little one’s mite (Mark 12:42). She gave us her entire life’s savings.
What matters most to God about offering an offering? What matters most to Him is what also mattered most to us those days: It’s the heart, not the amount.
Our offerings in word and deed reveal our heart. I see this in Matthew 12:35. They come from a worshiping heart.
Are you helping provide this ministry’s Christmas dinners, to bring others to faith in Christ? Your gift is first an act of worship, and secondly a benefit to the present and future of those children, youth, and adults. Your offering goes to the Father first, and then to the children!
Are you reaching into the hearts of children, teens, and adults through the Mission to Children, to bring them to maturity in Christ? Discipling them is, first, your act of worship to our Father in heaven. Second, it is your service for our Father.
Thank you for worshiping our Father through this ministry.
