From My Heart: Double Struck

Double Struck

One of the joys of my life these years is seeing God transform hearts and lives through the Mission to Children. What a privilege–and responsibility–it is to serve Him together!

I’m struck at how He uses so little to accomplish so much. He did it when Gideon’s mini-army defeated Midian in Judges 9. He did it when five loaves and two fish fed a hungry crowd of thousands in Mark 6.

He did it again in India. Recently, in the state of Orissa–known for its severe and sometimes fatal persecution of Christians–10,000 of our disciple-making booklets on Christlike character became part of another ministry initiative. God worked in 30 districts through teams of brave, diligent gospel workers. Reports indicate that 3,701 placed their faith in Christ; 9,207 rededicated their lives to the Lord (despite Hindu pressures); and 24,774 want to know more about Jesus! That initiative is another victory by God’s grace and for His glory.

Many of these new believers will join our Easter Dinner Outreach this year. This will be one of the first events they will celebrate their new identity in Christ. And they will be joined by thousands more in Orissa who recommitted themselves to God. Only in heaven will it get better than that!

But may I be candid? I am also struck by this ministry’s vital need for a growing number of committed, monthly donors and prayer partners. At the same time as these blessed ripple effects continue to grow, financial and prayer support continue to slow. Whether because of swings in the economy, challenges in health, or other changes that affect income, fewer each year are contributing to international outreach through the Mission to Children.

Likewise, our need to “Keep looking up!” continues to be significant. Year by year, an increasing number of dear, aging prayer warriors begin their eternity in the presence of our Lord. Who will step into the gaps they leave behind?

You can help in two key ways.

  • First, continue your committed, monthly prayer and support. This enables us to transform thousands more hearts and lives on the front lines.
  • Second, will you please share about the Mission to Children with a friend or family member whom you think may be blessed to reach out through this ministry as you are?

I hope your answer is, “Yes, Skip, you can count on me.”
