Diligence: “Willingly completing the tasks I have accepted.”
Why should we care about Diligence?
Diligence pleases God. It also leads to personal satisfaction. It helps us finish what we’ve begun, and allows us to accomplish more for God’s glory.
How does a person demonstrate Diligence?
With Persistence, Alertness, Cautiousness, Creativity, and Thoroughness
An opposite word: Laziness
“We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.” (Hebrews 6:12)
Diligence Quotes:
“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)
“The essential part of creativity is not being afraid to fail.” (Edwin H. Land)
“With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints . . .” (Ephesians 6:18)
“Fall seven times. Stand up eight.” (Japanese Proverb)
“Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” (James 1:12)
“The difference between the ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra effort called perseverance.” (Chinese Proverb)
“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1)
Make it personal:
- Am I diligent in regularly studying God’s Word?
- Is there sin that entangles me that keeps me from running the race God has marked out for me?
- Is there a task I need to finish that I have given up on? Do I need to be accountable to someone for this?
